Photographer Lorenzo Zandri has documented two mod

Photographer Lorenzo Zandri has documented two modernist houses that architect Juan O'Gorman completed in Mexico City.

The first house, Cecil O'Gorman House, was completed in 1929 as a home and studio for architect Juan O'Gorman’s father. While In 1931, he was commissioned by Mexican artists Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo to build their house and studio on the adjacent plot.

Both properties were completed by Juan O'Gorman who was heavily influenced by the 20th-century architect Le Corbusier. O'Gorman was instrumental in introducing the functional modernist architecture style to Mexico.

The two homes have boxy forms accented with cylindrical volumes, terraces and staircases. The Cecil O'Gorman House has a brick roof and pink-hued exterior walls that are fronted by large windows.

The house and studio for Rivera and Kahlo, who were married at the time of its commission, is multi-coloured and comprises two separate structures connected by a raised walkway. One building has a blue exterior that is accented by pink window frames and rails. The other is pink and white, and has several geometric shapes, including triangles and cylindrical forms integrated into the design.

Both properties have since been acquired and turned into museums in Mexico’s capital.

Designed by Gabinete de Arquitectura, the Telethon

Designed by Gabinete de Arquitectura, the Telethon Children's Rehabilitation Center in Paraguay is an effort of adaptive reuse making use of most of the material and resources generated by tearing down an existing 30 year old building.

The architects demolished walls and tore down barriers, going on to reuse the demolished material and rubble to create a renewed building that is welcoming and sheltering, with its heart and doors open to society.

The Rehabilitation Center was made a reality by the effort of a collection drive done via a telethon where every brick put in the project was the fruit of a social offering.

Designed by Zero Energy Design Lab, the Girls Host

Designed by Zero Energy Design Lab, the Girls Hostel Block of the St. Andrews Institute of Technology and Management in Gurgaon has a staircase and a series of bridges that are modulated to ensure they are at the heart of the building program.

This primary connecting element along with its network of bridges is visually and acoustically linked to each other, extending their purpose to become spaces where students can interact, socialize and learn from each other.

Built using pigmented hollow concrete blocks, the staircase screens the building without blocking the view from the inside.

It facilitates a sense of privacy for the girls - also ensuring increased ventilation and reducing solar gain from the extremely hot ambient climate.

An experimental construction system adopted by @a

An experimental construction system adopted by @aldana.sanchez.arch for the Hñähñu Multimedia Center include Catalan vaults, brick walls and lattices stitched with concrete nodes and hybrid construction techniques using metal framing.

The experimental structure is designed to serve as a multipurpose room and a public place to allow people of all ages to gather and make use of its media services that include a cyber café, gaming, and cell phone services; the program also includes an apartment on the first floor with independent access.

The architectural intervention, located in the community precinct of Julian Villagran in Mexico’s Hidalgo state, with its terraced gazebo, brick curtain wall and semi-circular arched domes aims to put the laggard and ignored local community on the map.
