Talk Of The Town

The Milan International Furniture Exhibition, also known as the Salone del Mobile Milano Fair, is a one-of-a-kind exhibition slated to be held from 4th to 9th April this year. The icing on the cake? Design Owl is going to be there.

The team is eagerly looking forward to being a part of the passion, vitality and energy of the event. They will be reporting back to us live from the pavilions at Rho Fiera Milano (Milan Fair Grounds in Rho). Excitement is resonating throughout the city of Milan as manufacturers, designers, architects, contractors, buyers, sellers and visitors queue up to experience this unequalled event. Once known as I Saloni Milan and now at its 56th edition, the exhibition has slowly become the largest and most important event of its kind in the world. Both in the number of exhibitors as well as visitors, the past years have shown exponentially growing figures.

This year sees the return of two biennials, namely Euroluce and Workplace 3.0/Salone Ufficio. While the former is a showcase of lighting equipment, the latter is an exhibition of office equipment and integrated workspace solutions. The needs and emotions of people act as the main protagonists in this display. Salone Ufficio aims to provide its customers with new and smart office solutions that approach design with an anthropocentric bent of mind. Other highlights include the Salone Internazionale del Mobile (International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition) which boasts of more than 1300 exhibitors, as well as the Salone Satellite, which dedicates itself to being a launching pad for young designer talent under the age of 35.

The 2017 edition of Salone del Mobile is experimenting with a new format of dividing the displays into different clusters, namely Classico: Tradizione nel Futuro and Before Design: Classico. In the first cluster, classical furniture will be displayed in a linear fashion along a central walkway. In the second, a room and a theatre together with a short movie by Matteo Garrone will don the roles of the display pieces.

A unique programme of exhibitions, presentations, shows, DJ sets, cocktail parties as well as installations and projects at various offsite locations make up the Fuorisalone event and enhance the Design Week extravaganza. Spread over an area of 270,000 square meters, the Salone is a meeting point for over 2000 exhibitors, 372,000 visitors, 165 countries and thousands of new products. It is truly the benchmark for trade fair on an international level.
