Nestled in the heart of the Pune Cantonment, is the studio of Architect Khushru Irani. As you walk down the adjoining lane, the simple rectangular building will appear like any other structure in the labyrinth of old houses in the area. However, this 100yr old building has been restored and conserved by the architect himself, maintaining its unique heritage and character and thus blending in with the context.

With a view to keep the design approach of the studio vernacular, you will see the use of materials like wood, rough stone floors, steel elements, and white walls. The traditional antique furniture along with modern steel has given the space a rustic and simplistic look.

The open and airy office space can accommodate 14 architects and has separate spaces for meetings and conferences. Imperative to any architect’s office, the studio also has a small library and a reading zone. The spiral staircase which adds dimension to the room leads us to the compact yet commodious mezzanine floor. Aptly named as ‘The Loft’ , it is used for hosting various talks and lectures which are open to all. On a typical event day, ‘The loft’ , will be seen thronged with enthusiasts eager to be a part of the lecture.
