A Mumbai home works as a blank canvas for Ashiesh Shah, who uses different materials to create a serene, spiritual space. . All through the home, Ashiesh has made an attempt to translate the trishul concept (derived from Lord Shiva’s trishul) into a design statement. There is the trishul as a frieze or a wall motif in the guest room and there is art depicting the motif, created by the architect himself using acrylic and gold leaf paint, in the living room. Besides the trishul motif, Ashiesh has drawn motifs from Kashmir’s chinar tree and used it as wooden cones on the front door, as well as in the mother-of-pearl inlay on the sliding kitchen door.
