Rajiv Saini and Associates created a contemporary living space as a solution for a young couple to live with their family; and yet have a dedicated space to call their own. The apartment is located in Anant, a residential house in New Delhi occupied by a single family. Initially a three bedroom space, Rajiv Saini and his team reworked the floor-plan to accommodate a spacious master suite and one extra room for guests.
A rectangular screen fabricated out of black granite screens the entrance as one steps off the elevator. The team carved out rectangular blocks from a solid block of granite, and what resulted was a contemporary twist to the traditional Indian jaali.
The living room is kept monochromatic to match the contemporary flavour of the house. Warm lighting and use of wood on the walls and ceiling create a dining nook just off the living room. The clever use of matching colours in both spaces ties up the understated decor premise. As one enters the master suite from the living space, the modulation in the design sensibilities to cater to the personal space is evident. The elegant monochromatic tone is maintained but rich olive green furnishings bring in a hint of glamour.
