The existing house was previously divided into 3 bedrooms, a smaller living & dining area with a kitchen. The newly purchased neighboring flat was a large 2 bedroom apartment which the clients wanted to convert into their formal living and dining space along with an extension to their master bedroom which would form the lounge. A bright, spacious and open house - this was the client’s wish and the guiding principle behind the redesign of this residence. The apartment needed to look sophisticated and offer the warmth of a home to its residents at the same time. To offer space both to a family of four and to numerous art objects in a living area, this brought about a radical change to the original appearance of the house. Neesha and Shruti of N+S Architects recreated a soft transition from the existing to the newly built. The house interior has underwent a powerful transformation, making the different spaces merge smoothly. By tearing down existing walls and erecting new ones, the apartments were amalgamated in a manner by which spaces were connected functionally and aesthetically. The apartment exudes a pleasant air of spaciousness. The large formal living area opens up into a small private terrace with exclusive views of the city. The master suite complete with a dressing room and a bathroom is connected to the living room through the lounge cum study area. A sophisticated look flows through the home, offering seamless glamour and warmth at the same time. Danish cream Italian marble flooring flows though the house along with walnut hard wood floors in the bedrooms. Some of the furniture pieces are in a high gloss polyurethane paint, some clad with wood and veneer finished in polyurethane polish and others in an antique paint finish. The walls and the ceiling of the entrance vestibule are panelled in steamed larch veneer and have been punctured with a niche that houses a sculpture creating a focal point at the entrance. The entrance vestibule carries an antique wooden bench. The living room and lounge furniture is predominantly in neutral shades of cream, beige, brown and dull gold with aubergine and rust accents. The living room sofa seating is designed in two pockets with a chaise lounge between the two kids of seating. A large maroon Persian carpet livens the living room and adds a burst of colour, while the rest of the house has an assortment of beige and brown shaggy rugs.
