Kabir House celebrates lavishness and oneness with nature right in the heart of a bustling city.
Kabir House in Vadodara, Gujarat, was created through simple proportions and a feeling of abundance of space. Designed by Usine Studio, led by Yatin and Jiten, this residence is for a family that wanted the luxuries of a farmhouse within the city.
The design firm merged the residence with its surrounding landscape to create a tranquil amalgamation with nature. “The interior design is not an afterthought; it is interwoven with the terrain,” Yatin says.
A water body and Zen gardens with a concrete bench at the entrance establishes the overall tranquil mood of the house. The water body, next to the puja space, creates a divine ambience.
Inside, the recreational area is modern and minimalistic in approach. An informal bar almost blends in with the room. “The space is so designed that it engulfs nature into it and is a celebration of life itself,” Jiten says.
The spaces are arranged along the periphery walls that define and support the structures of the house. Concrete slabs, stone walls and wood have been used to construct the building, while walls and floor near the garden have a matte finish.
The formal living area has a rare concept of nature with grey hues. The artwork on the wall is made by incorporating pastel shades of every element in the room.
The bar is housed in the family room, following the concept of light and shadow. Basic engraving and embossing techniques with plain hues have been used to create an elegant light element in the bar area, which is also clubbed as a dining space. A hint of colour is added to the grey floor and white ceiling with elements such as a sofa and a wall painting.
The passage acts as the main spine in the house. The bedrooms are elegant and simple without being run–of-the mill. The bedroom on the right has a royal feel with a minimalistic design.
A minimalistic and sleek, open, wooden staircase with a metal base leads from the ground floor to the first landing of the passage. On the right is the gymnasium and the other built ups are bedrooms. The upper floor has the sons’ bedrooms.
