The simplicity and elegance of this 1800 sq. ft house, located in Kamshet and overlooking a still blue lake, makes for a contemporary weekend retreat for a Mumbai-based family. Designed by Opolis Architects, the house reinforces the ‘getaway’ mood – this is a space designed to promote relaxation and recuperation above all. To protect the structure from the fierce south-west monsoon, the green coated metallic roof opens to the leeward (north) side and leans into the wind. As a result, one drives around the house to come to the entrance, which faces the lake.
The house is divided into two wings. The living, dining and kitchen areas are in one part while the other houses two bedrooms and a small study. Both these wings intersect at the entrance. The team at _ Opolis Architects, led by Rahul Gore and Sonal Sancheti have infused the home with minimalist décor that would add to the calmness and openness that the house was inherently blessed with. The stunning view of the lake and the surrounding hill takes away all city-stresses and reinforces ones respect for nature. In this tranquil house hovering above a lake, the getaway is complete.
