Ace Associates has successfully cut off harsh lights and noise pollution to create an oasis of peace at the Screen House.

The brief from the client, Shailesh Patel, stated he wanted a house that had private from the busy road in front of the plot. He brief for Ace Associates also included creation of interactive outdoor spaces.

The  Sunscreen House was built as a cosy L-shaped private residence that responded well both its context and climate.

The solid facade built on the west and south side screen the harsh sunlight and encloses the pretty garden and the verandah space in the north. The north glazing in double height space connects the kitchen, dining and upper lounge areas with the garden, and allows natural light to enter the rooms.

The shape of the plot is such that the after sunset, car lights passing from the main road, cast glaring light into the front bedroom and balcony. The proximity to a busy road also meant vehicular noise disturbing the peace of the house.

The solution was designed in the form of a concrete sliding screen. It not only filtered harsh rays of the sun but also cut out the traffic lights and noise. This became the front facade of the house. The designers built the slider in such a way that it could be positioned in various different ways by the residents.

Different bedrooms have been designed as per the taste and functional requirement of individual persons. The bedrooms are retro and are inspired from the Mediterranean landscape. The open spaces, however, are minimalistic, for which Kota and raw wood have been used.

The wide steps merging with planters and sculptures gradually lead one to the semi-covered verandah, which works as a transition space between the busy road outside and the quaint garden within. The lounge area on the first floor is designed in a way so that it can also be used as a yoga and meditation area.

Four designers-Ar. Nikhil Patel, Ar. Ashish Patel, Ar. Nilesh Dalsania and Id. Vasudev Sheta-came together to form Ace Associates. The design firm provides innovative and sustainable architecture designs, which are driven by function, clarity and beauty.
