Avalons Greenwoods is Baroda-based designer Shivani Sanghani’s home and creative canvas par excellence. The luxury pad is deeply elegant in its looks, but uncompromising in comfort and warmth.

For some people, having a house of their own is just about having a decently luxurious dwelling. While for some others, a ‘home’ is everything - a place where one lives, grows, and identifies completely with. Baroda-based interior designer, Shivani Sanghani, is all for creating such personalised and sophisticated homes which are not only strikingly attractive but also speak of their owners in their most truthful senses. No surprise then that her home, ‘Avalons Greenwoods’, is a perfect amalgamation of these aesthetic principles.

One will be greeted at this home by the luxurious living room, marked with its traditional yet stylish features like a wooden ceiling, and classic deep-white upholstery, with overlooking magical lights adding their own little twinkle. “Neither too much, nor too little, but just about right is the simple description for the living-cum-dining room. Accompanied with a bright abstract painting, which throws some colours into the space, and strikes the perfect colour balance,” states Sanghani.

The dining area is dominated by a classic wooden-log table, along with crafted leather and brass chairs and a matching wood-brass console. The long wooden dining table gives the entire dining room a spacious and comfortable look.

A little to the outside are the deck and the swimming pool. “It is pure luxury to sit on the cool stool kept by the deck and enjoy a nice cup of coffee, amidst the lush green lawn and garden area,” says Sanghani. The wooden stools and deck complement each other beautifully, and the lights by the pool add the perfect mood to the place.

The kitchen was customised in-house, thus making cooking not only easy, but also quick and comfortable. “This space is also marked by built-in dining, reminding us of the modern working wives today, who can manage to shoot a few e-mails while being the perfect housewife in the kitchen,” explains Sanghani.

The lower floor contains the parents’ room. Keeping it minimal, the room is defined by soothing colours and classic furniture; not overdone, yet uncompromising in its look and feel.

A stylish wooden staircase, with sleek and elegant brass railing, takes one to the upper floor. The lounge here is home to a comfortable sofa set, a television, and of course, books and more books! Being a home of music lovers, speakers have been installed in its every room.

Then comes the bedroom, the coolest room in the house. Symbolising youth and a deep love for music, a drum-set and a guitar luxuriate here, playing perfect companions to the drummer wife and the guitarist husband. It also contains a modern en-suite bathroom and ample wardrobe space. The classic 3-D wooden ceiling has minor but detailed paneling to it. An exposed brick wall stands along other plain walls, and a careful lighting scheme adds to the glamourous setting.

The final room in the house is the guest room. Centred on a poster-bed, a splash of colours and a pair of trunks working as a side-table distinguish the room. Rose-pink curtains and a bright painting on the wall enhance the vogue factor here.

Giving the entire house a perfect balance in light, space and colour, Shivani Sanghani of Kyrra Studio has given the house a timeless effect. Clean lines, simple yet well-crafted furnishings, with an acute attention to texture and quality materials, constitute the designer’s signature style. Her home is a perfect example of this mix.
