A motley assortment of colours, crafts and paintings bathed in the varying moods of light, amidst an architecture of overlapping spaces, creates a ‘melange’, realised as the abode of architect couple, Khushnu and Sönke Hoof. The architect couple who are associates at V?stu Shilp? Consultants, acquired an old vacant row-house called 55 Sumeru, which, after purchasing the neighbouring house, they modified and transformed into what is now 55+56 Sumeru.
Quite informal in space demarcation, the house is more fluid than rigid. As a result the house creates an illusion of being much larger and spacious than what it actually is. The house aims to set a new trend in the contemporary residential architectural language of the city. It is a modern vocabulary for the traditional Pol House typology, which is the signature style of Ahmedabad.
The entire house is crafted out of two basic colours, that is, white on the walls and the natural colour of Kota stone supplied by the floor and the in-built furniture.
