Aayam architects firmly uphold practising technologies that have glimpses of local culture and aesthetics have approached the prospect of designing a home in an astonishing way.
Prabhuvan in Paldi, Ahmedabad, is a treasure trove of traditional arts and crafts, yet modern in appeal has been designed and planned by Aayam architects, committed to consciously practicing vernacular architecture techniques like earth construction, stone construction and wooden roofing systems. Instead of following convention, the spaces have been enriched with traditional handmade crafts in form of partitions, furniture, accessories and wall decor.
The grand entrance door is intricately embellished with the auspicious symbol of Sun god carved in wood and painted in copper while a Srinath ji idol is placed in the living room.
The conventional jaali work demarcating the living and family rooms has been eschewed for a quirky motif of rolling pins. These rolling pins feature a lacquer finish and are decorated in a traditional laher pattern in different organic colours by Kutchi artisans.
The elevated floor of the family room is designed in accordance with Vaastu principles, the red palette fills the room with warmth and positive energy. A montage of family photographs helps break the starkness of the strong colour. The voguish kitchen offers contemporary vibe. The chic dining space is marked by the innovative eco-friendly dining table and stools made from reclaimed wood.
The master bedroom follows a blue theme with sunflower wall art in a patina finish. The warm wooden false ceiling and the wooden flooring creates visual symmetry in the bedroom. Inclined lines and pops of blue, green and yellow lend a playful, cheerful touch to the sophisticated design of the Children’s bedroom. Brown kota stone flooring runs through the entire house, save for the master bedroom. Tomato glass of varying colours inserted in the internal doors, add continuity to the interiors of each room. Through this project, Aayam architects have upheld their motto to essentially connect to our roots, to Mother Nature.
