Varsha and Deepak Guggari of VDGA, Pune, design a contemporary residence that accommodates modern aspirations within the traditional Indian family backdrop as they present a perfect homecoming for the family in Nasik. A social context is maintained through ideal arrangement of spaces within the basic grid structure of the residence. Visual connectivity is also preserved by way of the architects accommodating the conventional courtyard motif common to Indian homes and striving for an inward looking house. The latter is achieved by efforts to visually and physically tie in this soothing aspect of the outdoor landscape to the interior one - so the link between bamboo trees is kept alive by leading the eye inward to the palms and champa tree inside. The core team ingeniously explored visual, spatial and technically sound ideas to bring alive a functional and fashionable 3X3 Grid House scheme. The result: a refreshing revelation of spaces within a residential framework that generates a cultural link, a sense of discovery and a feeling of intimacy in every section of their grid design platform, across a multi-level home.
