A space should reflect the personality of the people living in it rather than just a designer’s creative vision and that is just what the designer has accomplished here. Refurbishing norms by giving a contemporary twist to the classic tale of colonial chic, interior designer Varsha Agarwal builds the ideal personal sanctuary in Mumbai. Varsha employed the cue given by her clients of an uncluttered space without being minimalist, but also adopted into the design the client’s classic sensibilities which expound their personality as individuals. Finally concluding into two extreme design styles, their lifestyle and need for comfort exemplified a contemporary outlook bringing in clean lines and a bold colour palette. While on the other hand the Victorian décor implied the use of elegant pieces and muted colours in upholstery and custom-made colonial furniture representing a sense of belonging and timeless values.
