Set along the sloping planes of Kovai hills that fence verdant Coimbatore, a lush region in Tamil Nadu, Kovai Villa is a fusion of influences in consort with nature. The structural design incorporates several elements: the house, its location, a central courtyard, followed by a pool in the backyard that overlooks a golf course.
A sensitive and reciprocative approach to architecture led to the design of an open floor plan that recognised the infusion of the exterior within. Ideas of openness and adaptability took precedence in the structure, which further developed into a courtyard home. Multi-functional zones allow for an inviting change of focus when needed, blurring boundaries between inside and outside. The use of generous roaming verandas provides a strong feeling of light.
Driven by holistic design, Sharukh Mistry drew inspiration from human interaction with nature. The team employed simple, straight forward local materials such as stone, copper, clay tiles, wood, steel glass and butch work that envelop the structure in its indigenous heritage. The substantial exterior and warm interiors exert a natural feel brought to life by top-quality premium craftsmanship.
