This bachelor home in Mumbai mixes casual and fun with homely and subtle with genius effortlessness.

A chic blend of colours dots this sparsely but elegantly furnished bachelor pad in Mumbai. Located in a high-rise, these interiors are deliberately minimal and quirky, and arranged so as to achieve maximum open-ness in a notoriously space-crunched metropolis.

The most eye-catching design element here is the play of colours, set amidst a layout scheme that mixes a casual café style with a more understated homely feel. “The shell of the house is very basic and simple,” says Natasha Aggarwal of Studio NaCL. “The furnishings and styling add a dash of boldness and bring out the colour and the quirky character, uplifting the space. The balcony overlooks the city, and the astro-turf flooring here makes it look like a garden in the sky, with yellow chairs adding a fun element.”

The dining area features a relaxed café-like setting. The fixed furniture pieces are few, with most being flexible and move-able, allowing the look of the home to keep changing as the mood demands. All of the furniture in the house is custom-made, from the bed to the dining table and the bench, sofas and even the quirky book-printed chair and centre table.

The living room is the lively, fun hangout space, visually separated from the bedroom which is more toned down, subtle and cosy in character. “The master bedroom’s size is small, therefore its entire wardrobe is clad in mirror, expanding the look of the room,” states Aggarwal. The checkered wall clad in veneer with black polished grooves is the highlight of the room.

The bar table is clad in bronze mirror with bevelled edges to reduce the heaviness of the piece and also to add some element of chic to the space. As much as possible, mood lighting has been introduced in the form of indirect lighting from the ceiling and the bar table-top, instead of using an extensive range of decorative lamps.
