Architect and designer Kaif Faquih of Faquih and Associates, creates a holiday home in Alibaug where a premonitory sense of arrival heightens the interiors’ experience not as a mere assembly of pleasing man-made and natural objects, but as an experience that filters through the senses and settles into the being; creating a ‘mood’. The pavilion-like look and feel complete with the in-built brise-soleils (sun-breakers) simulates the feeling of standing on the mountain edge, one with the elements, yet paradoxically sheltered from them. Intentionally, any kind of theatrical architectural displays are kept at bay with the detailing diligently ascetic, precise and rational. All aspects of interior selection such as furnishings, furniture and clad materials work in unison and borrow from each other the poise and delicate balance that create an interior of holistic unity. Lights and artworks are few but scaled to the spaces they are installed in.
