Architect Sunil Patil infuses deep-rooted cultural ethos in a contemporary home in Solapur using a nondescript architectural mandate - the wall. This project is literally about a singular wall that stands tall bang in the middle of the site, and subsequently, the house; running along from the front end of the compound wall to the back. Clad in economical Tandoor Stone, the dark grey silhouette of the wall divides the home into two pragmatic zones – public areas and private areas. Realising the clients’ passion for painting and the need to enjoy their talent displayed, Sunil Patil and Associates came up with the concept of this wall that would act as the perfect backdrop for their paintings; and simultaneously constitute the core design element of the home. The entire home thus flows in and out into nature through various walk-outs and openings from living, dining and bedroom areas, perfectly blending the architecture, interior decoration and landscape. A pristine white look characterises the entire home with the use of different eco-friendly materials, ample natural light and minimum intervention of natural wood and veneers.
