Two contrasting structures - a white cube and a skewed slate-glass combination, with an interior scheme of contrasting materials and concepts define the Singhania farmhouse in Delhi. The warmth of an outer orange wall, the irregularities of the slate wall, the use of translucent glass all across, which blurs the distinction between the green outside and the spacious inside, the intelligent use of antiques and art that define the spaces, all blend in this farmhouse.
The home began with a white cube structure put up by another architect. Instead of demolishing it Rajiv Saini retained the white cube and added on a skewed silver gray slate and glass structure as an extension. The skewed walls, which work as the spine of the home, start as concrete on the outside, continue as concrete inside and then change to glass. At no point as you move from the cube into the skewed structure, do you see any formal division; but the difference in palettes, materials, makes it an interesting experience.
