Ipsit Patel and Rika Chaudhry include paper-fold art inspirations in the interiors of The RND Diagnostic Centre in Mumbai to create a uniquely fun medical institution design scheme.
The RND Diagnostic Centre in Mumbai, designed by Patch Design Studio has an unconventional design and is a perfect representation of the team’s skill when it comes to stretching creative limits. While working on the plan to design this institution, designer duo Ipsit Patel and Rika Chaudhry agreed to retain certain traditions, like a white palette and PUC-coated surfaces that would lend a brighter, more spacious look to the area. But, of course, they insisted on working in a little twist into the design as well!
Origami informed the inspiration for the centre’s interiors. It has also helped endow the space with a unique character. The main feature wall in the reception area folds in to envelope a bench for patients, while at another end, a wall folds into a reception desk.
The designers have cleverly extended the concept of origami folds to modern furniture and have achieved startling results with an edgy desk and stool. Their refusal to be pinned down by convention as well as their ability to visualise the fantastic in the dull and ordinary makes them worthy of a centrefold.
