New Delhi-based DCA Architects created a distinct design language for this lighting retail store to spotlight its product range in an environmentally sustainable, elegant space.

The main requirement of this Sultanpur, New Delhi-located project’s brief was the creation of integrated zones to accommodate the client’s innovative range of lighting products. There was a conscious effort to not allow in too much natural light so as to showcase the product array in its maximised output mode. The client and the architect both also believed in achieving these ends in a greener way. “The general approach to the design was to honour the structure and core materials through mindful architectural additions with a focus on detailing,” states the team from the New Delhi-based firm, DCA Architects.

Bringing the design inspiration forward, the office layout is open and clear with an open ceiling, exposed services and industrial-ducts. Old office furniture was reused and the new ones were made in MDF. Suspended frames together with the other features were finished in a way to create a clean and raw look.

The ultimate success of the layout is in the zoning, and the complete utilisation of the space - it encloses the meeting/planning room, working studio, informal discussion area, materials library, product display, director’s office, multiple storage spaces, and the café/training room.

The architectural additions were given a level of boldness with the use of the darkest shade of grey Valchromat and cement board, both in their natural form. This also provides a balanced complement to the existing structure. The darker palette also enables a solid stage or backdrop for the raw furnishings, fixtures, and suspended framed graphics.

The most interesting and eye-catching element is the 15 ft. high cabinetry - a composition of closed and open boxes - which was crafted in the cement board itself. The free standing storage spaces provide ample privacy to the work-stations.
