This pub in Goa, with its rustic appearance and live music, is the place to be after sundown.
Soro in the Konkani language means an alcoholic beverage. The 280 sq.m pub in Assagao, Goa, is named after the Konkani word. Conceptualised within the ruins of an old corner store, Soro is centred around the concept of a warehouse.
The corner store itself became the protagonist in the story of the bar; the design is centred around the concept of a 1940’s warehouse owned by a local dealer who traded in different merchandise. Thus retaining as much of the original structure as possible became pivotal.
The three walls that stand at the junction of the roads abutting the site have been left largely untouched. Their dilapidated charm became the perfect opportunity to create an understated entrance into the young, hip, industrial chic bar that unfolds within. The interior walls have been brought to life with vintage graffiti. Bold elements of graphic design were introduced into the flooring by using an eclectic array of cement tiles in a customised pattern.
The bar inside Soro was constructed in terrazzo and select interior doors made from old corrugated metal sheets. All the ducting and electrical piping was left exposed carrying forward the theme of the industrial warehouse.
Soro is a new take on the retro pub experience and is the first of its kind in Goa. The rustic ambience along with great fusion food leave guests wanting to keep visiting the pub again and again. The live music on weekdays is extremely popular with guests. From pizzas to grills and barbecues, from Continental dishes to Konkani cuisines, the food here is delectable.
