Juxtaposing the dramatic with the simplistic, Sanjay Puri Architects endorses the clichéd design maxim of ‘form follows function’ in this public space design at Lonavla. Conceived as an affiliation of ambling abstracted volumes to maximize the floor plate and create a site-interactive equation, the mall is a sculptural delight at a height of approx. 8m above the ground from its highest point. Fluid on the inside and dramatically trapezoidal on the outside, architect Sanjay Puri conceived Triose out of large organic folds of concrete skin designed to seamlessly flow through angled spaces projecting them towards different directions. Almost like a ground-facing ‘E’, the floor plate flows like finger-shaped projections moving in and out so that all indoor spaces merge with the landscape.
The axis of the building changes constantly from one side to the other allowing each space within to look out towards different views of the surrounding landscapes via three large open frames that outline the spectacular external landscape. Reciprocally, the layout inside too opens out responding to the vistas accentuating the interiors with the natural beauty of the surroundings.
