Contemporary Indian luxury with character, yet enabling the merchandise to hold centre stage, is what defines the look of Chamomile in the Greater Kailash Market of Delhi. The site was a 1,200 sq. foot residential apartment situated on the second floor, with a low ceiling and a layout entirely unsuitable for a retail outlet, which added to the challenge for the team at Studio Lotus. There were no views, so the entire design had to look inwards. Designed to offer an intimate shopping experience, the store had to provide a simple yet beautiful 3-dimensional frame for the clothes on display. It had to provide a neutral shell for the merchandise, but still have character of its own. The entire store is cast in hues of cement in natural tones, a palette that works as an effective backdrop for both, the vibrant colours as well as the more mellow pastels of the seasonal merchandise.
