Located at Mahalaxmi, Mumbai, the site of the store now known as \'Hestia,\' was a nondescript hall peppered with columns, and had the peculiar topography of an inbuilt sloping floor. Designers Sanjeev Punjabi and Sangeeta Merchant of Spasm Architects thought that they should retain, and in fact play up its peculiar features. Since the space was already delineated by its topography, the designers created a ‘ramp’ which is the main walking area for customers in this furniture store. It is a sloping surface in polished black cudappah, which runs through the length of the store. The three primary materials used are copper pipes, the grey cement \'coba,\' and the polished black cudappah stone. Thin copper arches which accentuate the columns are a distinctive feature of this site, and create a repetition of portals.
