FIRM PROFILE
AANGAN Architects was instituted in April 2001 with a motive of creating sensible and responsive design collaboration in fields related to built environment; Architect & Urban Designer Vishal Shah the Founder Partner and Ar. Vishal Desai, Partner are heading the firm with Ar. Niti Shah & Ar. Prathama Desai providing an edge to Planning and Interior Design respectively.
‘AANGAN’- a hindi word, means a transitional forecourt of a traditional Indian House, the word suggests a pause, a phase of transition incidental at the entrance of the house. The Design philosophy of the firm metaphorically represents the word ‘AANGAN’ where it facilitates the decision making for the client for a better living environment. The methodology of AANGAN strives to promote innovative and alternative thinking amongst all involved in design and promote sustainable practice from conceptual stage.
Presently the firm is dealing into projects related to Residential and Institutional Architecture, interior architecture, Urban –Design and Landscape. Members of the organization are also actively involved in academics and collaborate with like minded firms for important projects contributing to the betterment of living environment. The organization has a wide consultant base for structural engineering, Landscape Design, Services and Infrastructure design, arts and project management.
The firm has won the 1st Prize at IIID Anchor Awards 2013 (West -3 Zone), Commendation Award at IIID-Anchor Awards 2012 (National Level) for Best Interior Design for Small Office Space and Runners Up in Single Dwelling Category and Small office Space Design (Regional Level – West 3) at IIID-Anchor Awards 2012 . It has also won the 1st Prize at IIID-Anchor Awards 2011 (West 3- Regional Level) & Commendation Award at IIID-Anchor Awards 2011 (National Level) for Best Interior Design for Single Dwelling Unit; Young Designers 09 award at National Level organized by popular design magazine Indian Architects & Builders (IA&B) - 2009, 2nd Prize in Housing competition for Disaster Resistant Housing organized by Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO), India - 2001 and Commendation award for Residential Interior design at regional level at Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID)-MK award - 2008.
The works of the firm have been published in National design magazines like Indian Architects & Builders (IA&B – Feb. 2009, Jan. 2011), Architecture + Design (A+D – April 2011), And various books featuring Indian Contemporary architecture including; 50-Beautiful Houses (Vol-II) by White Flag Publication; +91 Residences (Vol-II) & #91 Residences (Vol-III) by InCite Publication and a compilation by Ambuja Knowledge Centre named Indian Imprints (May 2011) and in local news daily’s for bringing awareness regarding built environment design amongst the citizens.
